Help with insomnia

-Some authors have focused on doing a monotonous work before getting asleep, reading late at night or taking night walks as the more frequent causes of insomnia. These authors recommend to have a fresh and dry environment at home, with out draughts. They also propose to check for the best position of the bed according to the flow of air that comes into the room, and to use a soft mattress so that sleep becomes more relaxing and restful.

-Other authors suggest having an especific diet (less stimulating) a frugal dinner with just the necessary liquids before going to bed or to do the opposite, eat  lots of food for dinner. They also recommend monotonous stimulation (sounds, calculations, etc.) during the initiating period of the sleep activity.

In some cases of insomnia it is suggested to apply cold compresses in the forehead before sleep; or to immerse in warm water, or have a warm feet bath; and finally, to apply a weak electric current in the neck or the head. It is necessary to explain that the methods and treatments named before have been expressed generally, without specifying symptoms and causes of insomnia.

Sometimes the period of fast wave sleeping are excessive and it also happens that the person wakes too many times during the night. In some cases the usual length of sleep is diminished, or sometimes only of the slow wave sleeping is affected.

Vein y L. Latash, in several investigations of the nocturnal sleep had come across the following conclusion: even those who have complains about having few hours a day (two or three hours), in fact they have five or six hours of sleep. In some patients, who said they suffer from insomnia, these authors couldn’t find the evidence, both in quality and quantity, of their sleep disorders. Due to this, they think that we can’t consider the presence of this disorder only related to the personal and subjective needs of sleep. This has to be compared with the average standarts and values in this matter.
